As far as the Yukon goes, it's very odd. The number of sightings is usually relative to population density."Ontario, with Canada's largest population of more than 11 million people, should record the highest number of reports. However, at 53 sightings, Ontario ranked second behind B.C., with its population of just over four million. The Yukon's 26 sightings placed the territory third in Canada, despite its population of 30,600 residents.Mr. Rutkowski said the popularity of provincial groups like UFO BC, which has its own hotline and Web site and whose members are monthly guests on a radio talk show, helps explain the propensity of UFO reports in that province.

Sinead O'Connor is not necessarily the type of chick you would want to grab a bite to eat with, then catch a late-night flick. She's angry. She's tumultuous. She's bald. Ah, but the Irish bank-of-firecrackers has transformed her wayward ways into something magical: compassion. Not to mention a brand-new, kick-ass album. O'Connor first broke our spinal cords with her 1987 debut, The Lion and the Cobra, then broke our hearts with her cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" from 1990's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got. Since then, her releases have made less of an impact, including a tribute to her childhood heroes on 1992's Am I Not Your Girl? (which included Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra covers), 1994's Universal Mother, and an EP in 1997 called Gospel Oak. Faith and Courage is her first full-length album in more than six years and finds Sinead returning to form (To read a review of Faith and Courage click here) with one of the most extraordinary albums of the new millennium.

He didn't publish it because he thought it was so bizarre," Hedges says. "He thought there must have been some mixup."Hedges had wondered the same thing about his own work, so he contacted Kirsch, who is now a professor of zoology and director of the Zoological Museum at the University of Wisconsin, where he has continued his research. Hedges figured no one would believe just one of them. But there is strength in numbers, and since the two scientists had used different techniques, and different samples, and arrived at the same conclusion, it would be a bit harder to sweep the findings away.Kirsch's lab used a technique called "DNA/DNA hybridization," which Sibley had pioneered. This technique compares all the genetic material contained in the DNA molecules of different species to determine the degree of genetic similarity. Hedges' lab used a technique called "DNA sequencing," which targets specific genes that carry the codes for inherited traits.

When Earth passes close to the comet's orbit, it smacks into the comet's old dust trails. The collisions cause shooting stars as the clumps strike Earth's upper atmosphere and vaporize, creating streaks of light in the sky.The most spectacular Leonid meteor storm in recent times was in 1966 when as many as 2,500 meteors streaked across the skies above Earth every minute.Astronomers' various predictions reflect their different mappings of the comet's dust trails. Jenniskens based his mappings on aircraft observations that his team did in 1999 and 2000. These calculations show that collisions with the comet trail left behind in 1767 will lead to the biggest displays in the Northeast around 5 a.m. ET.Cooke's mapping predicts the trail left behind in 1799 is poised to produce the most collisions, leading to an average show in the Northeast and a better, but still modest display of about 20 meteors a minute over Hawaii at about 3 a.m. local time.

EHarmony users answer more than 430 questions, ranging from "Do you smoke?" to "How much does the word 'dominant' describe you on a list of one through seven?" and "How often do you feel depressed?" Researchers compare a person's score with a "marital satisfaction index" based on the responses of 1,347 couples. Nearly one in five of those couples met on eHarmony, which targets people pursuing a "long-term relationship that leads to marriage."People are ranked in 29 categories, including "sexual passion," "mood management" and "spirituality." The company will only pair two people when it is 95 percent confident their compatibility rating falls in the index's top 25 percent. The 32-year-old middle school teacher in Florida completed her personality profile on May 7, 2003. Jack Stevison, an investment officer for a securities firm in Florida, submitted his the next day. They met in person the following week and were engaged within four months. They're getting married January 1.
